Ward Rauws

How can spatial planning policies ensure that cities are resilient in the face of major but uncertain changes? This is the question at the heart of Ward Rauws' research on adaptive planning. He analyses how spatial planning specialists deal with uncertainty and is developing an adaptive planning methodology.

In Dutch

As a spatial planning researcher, Rauws shows how valuable residents' experiential knowledge and creativity can be in maintaining cities as liveable places, something that he explores with them. He is also actively committed to 'team science', i.e. partnering with other disciplines to analyse policy, governance and behaviour. As a Young Academy member, he will focus on making universities more sustainable and on taking science to the local community.
