What is Scientific Quality?

De Jonge Akademie aims to enrich the debate about science with a substantive reflection on the quality of science. In 2014 and 2015 De Jonge Akademie organizes three afternoon discussions on the question: 'What is Scientific Quality?' On the first afternoon, 11 December, Steve Woolgar (Oxford and Linnköping University) will give his vision, followed by comments and a plenary discussion.

Recently there have been a lot of discussions about science, and policy reports and government visions are upcoming. Such public attention for science is important. De Jonge Akademie aims to enrich the debate about science with a substantive reflection on the quality of science. In 2014 and 2015 De Jonge Akademie organizes three afternoon discussions on the question: 'What is Scientific Quality?'

Steve Woolgar is one of the most prominent authors in the field of science studies.Steve Woolgar is one of the most prominent authors in the field of science studies. Amongst other things, he is co-author, along with Bruno Latour, of the well-known book Laboratory Life (1979).

After the lecture comments will be given by Oscar Verkaaik (anthropology, Universiteit van Amsterdam) and by Elies van Sliedregt (criminal law, Vrije Universiteit). The audience will be invited to participate in the plenary discussion on this challenging subject.
