Vandana Dwarka

Modern scientific disciplines depend on computer simulations to elucidate and design complex systems. But how do we know whether these simulations are reliable, and how can we shorten the time it takes to perform the necessary complex calculations? Vandana Dwarka works on the fundamental mathematics behind these questions and studies numerical methods for wave phenomena simulations, with applications for plasma fusion and quantum processing.

In Dutch

She develops algorithms to speed up complex calculations, make them more reliable, and reduce their energy and memory consumption. With her broad background in mathematics, econometrics and law, she is able to work with various domain experts on model and simulation validity. As a member of The Young Academy, she wishes to raise awareness and encourage critical reflection on the assumptions and limitations of model- and data-driven research in a rapidly changing research landscape. Her purpose in doing so is to foster research integrity and public trust in science. She is also committed to an intersectional approach to diversity and inclusion in science and scholarship.
