Eveline Crone (1975) studies the development of human cognition in relation to the development of the brain.

At the University of Leiden, she started the Brain & Development laboratory, where brain function is studied using functional MRI-scans of children starting at the age of 8. Crone and colleagues publish their work regularly in top international journals. For her research, she won the J.C. Ruigrok award 2007 and the Junior Heymans award 2008. Despite the complexity of her field of study, she is able to communicate her fascination for scientific research to colleagues, journalists and the general public. She published a popular science book called ‘The Adolescent Brain’ and developed a website specifically for adolescents together with experts in youth communication. She was awarded the Huybregtsenprijs 2009 (previously known as Award for Science & Society).
